Nearly 90 kilos down. A life rebuilt from the ground up.

I'm Garth. At my heaviest I weighed 172 kilos. Today I'm 84, the lightest I've been in my adult life.

For a long time I believed my body was the problem. If I could just lose the weight, everything else would fall into place. So I tried the diets, the gym memberships and the fresh starts, and each one came with the same promise that this time would be different. It wasn't, because I was trying to fix the outcome without fixing what sat underneath it.

What changed was the order I did things in. Sleep, structure, honesty, support. When my life became steady enough to hold a change, the change started to hold. Weight loss surgery in 2022 was part of that. It was a tool, and I'd finally learned to respect it.

The same thing happened with dating. For years I was the easy-to-be-with nice guy who never got chosen. Working through that with my mate Tom Valcanis, a men's group and therapy, I stopped trying to be liked and started being honest. I found the love of my life, Sam.

A Remade Man is where I share what I learned, from my books Balding Overweight Sex Machine (with Tom) and The Weight I Was Carrying. You'll get one honest story and one small thing to try each week. It's not a formula, and I'm not someone who has it all figured out. It's just what worked for me, so you can decide what fits your life.
